It is a paid update for people who bought PopClip from the Mac App Store in 2018 or earlier. After updating from any version lower than v2026.7, PopClip will revert to trial mode, with 250 uses for you to try all features. The “Upgrade…” button in the App settings pane leads to two offers: (1) 30% off a Lifetime License (free updates forever) — current offer price US$22.40 + tax, or local equivalent; or (2) a free Standard License (2 more years of updates) — nothing to pay. You can also choose not to update, and continue using your current version as-is. This is the first paid update in PopClip’s history, after 15 years of free updates. New: iCloud Sync

• PopClip now syncs your installed extensions, actions layout, and action settings between all your Macs using iCloud.
• iCloud Sync can be enabled or disabled from the new Tools menu at the bottom of the Actions pane. It defaults to “on” for fresh installs; otherwise it stays off until you are ready to sync.
• All synced copies merge their actions lists together to form one unified view. Please note that sync is not always instant; change propagation depends on the current iCloud weather, but all computers will converge eventually.
• Per-action secrets (sign-ins, API keys etc.) also now sync securely via the iCloud Keychain.

New: Actions list overhaul

• Unlimited actions: There’s no upper limit on how many extensions you can install or how many actions you can configure.
• Multiple instances: Extensions can now have more than one instance. Each instance is a unique action with its own name, icon, settings and position in the PopClip bar.

This update brings a major redesign of the user interface for accessing, configuring and updating PopClip.

• A completely new settings window, no longer attached to the menu bar.
• The menu bar icon now opens as a standard macOS menu instead of a custom popover, which eliminates issues with menu bar manager apps such as Bartender.
• All functions in the menu bar are duplicated in the settings window (including Quit), so you can now hide the menu bar icon permanently and not lose any functionality. Open the Settings window at any time by relaunching PopClip (from Finder, Spotlight, etc.).
• The “On/Off” setting is renamed as “Appear automatically” to more accurately indicate its effect. Many users did not know that PopClip can still be made to appear when “Off” via the keyboard shortcut or AppleScript trigger, so I hope this will help clarify the overall app logic.
• A subtle update to the appearance of the PopClip bar, using the “vibrancy” effect in the background, both to modernise the look and to improve legibility.
• A much improved software update flow, with a proper “Check for updates” command (finally!), unobtrusive notifications in the settings window (no sudden pop-ups), and a new, opt-in, “Install automatically” option.
• Other refinements for a more comfortable experience.

New: A General Overhaul

This update brings a major redesign of the user interface for accessing, configuring and updating PopClip.

• A completely new settings window, no longer attached to the menu bar.
• The menu bar icon now opens as a standard macOS menu instead of a custom popover, which eliminates issues with menu bar manager apps such as Bartender.
• All functions in the menu bar are duplicated in the settings window (including Quit), so you can now hide the menu bar icon permanently and not lose any functionality. Open the Settings window at any time by relaunching PopClip (from Finder, Spotlight, etc.).
• The “On/Off” setting is renamed as “Appear automatically” to more accurately indicate its effect. Many users did not know that PopClip can still be made to appear when “Off” via the keyboard shortcut or AppleScript trigger, so I hope this will help clarify the overall app logic.
• A subtle update to the appearance of the PopClip bar, using the “vibrancy” effect in the background, both to modernise the look and to improve legibility.
• A much improved software update flow, with a proper “Check for updates” command (finally!), unobtrusive notifications in the settings window (no sudden pop-ups), and a new, opt-in, “Install automatically” option.
• Other refinements for a more comfortable experience.

• Option to exclude specific website domains or addresses, in supported browsers.
• Option to exclude all apps by default and only include chosen apps.

• Better support for browsers: Dia, Quark, Vivaldi Snapshot, Zen.
• Compatible with latest version of Anki.

2024.12 (4688; Dec 18, 2024)

This is a maintenance release that improves compatibility and reliability, and squashes a few bugs. In particular:

• Fixed some situations where PopClip would fail to appear when selecting text.
• Pressing ⌘C sometimes had no effect when pressed simultaneously with PopClip appearing.
• The Open URL action now supports the lt: (LiquidText) URL scheme.

2023.7 (4151; Jul 18, 2023)

• Changed: PopClip has a new application icon and a reshaped menu bar icon to match it.
• Added: Improved support for the following browsers: Arc, Orion, Tor Browser, Mullvad, DEVONagent Pro.
• Fixed: PopClip can now detect that the selection is read-only in Google Chrome.
• Fixed: Added a work-around for a Chromium bug that could cause PopClip to not see the newlines in the text selection. This should improve some things in Google Chrome, Chromium-based browsers, and Electron apps such as Obsidian.
• Fixed: Certain Iconify icons which appeared glitched now display correctly.
• Fixed: PDF Expert compatibility (once again).
• Localization: Added full Turkish and Slovak translations, thanks to volunteer translators.
